Minimum FCS Standards

IPPSA has established minimum performance standards required to qualify as an IPPSA approved FCS system. This list is posted to assist prospects in understanding the minimum functions required to be considered FCS. IPPSA approved FCS system must:
  • Finitely define all resources.
  • Schedule all operations for all work orders accurate to the minute.
  • Calculate all queues of all operations accurate to the minute.
  • Manage all constraints essential to the user's application.
  • Manage all additional constraints defined by the user.
  • Produce feasible schedules.
These core functions are required to support the many higher level functions required for comprehensive manufacturing scheduling. The minimum standards listed are but a few of many capabilities supported by advanced FCS systems. Additional features and functions generally delivered as standard functions in advanced FCS systems are listed in IPPSA Publications of the Member Services section.

The IT industry is inundated with acronyms, many of which have no metrics that establish performance standards for the technology represented by the acronym. FCS has been and currently remains in this category. This list of minimum standards will assist companies to distinguish between vendors that meet the minimum standards and vendors that simply add the term "FCS" to their product literature. Contact IPPSA for assistance in evaluating FCS systems.
